Who Can Become an Official?
To become a Level 1 Official, you should:
Be at least 14 years of age
Have strong skating skills
Be interested in learning the rules and mechanics of officiating
Be dependable, respectful, and willing to learn
Officials who are 18 years of age or older are also required to complete a valid Police Record Check in accordance with Ringette Ontario requirements.
How to Get Started
The first step is to express your interest by contacting GCRA’s officiating contact:
Interested participants are encouraged to reach out as early as possible, as Level 1 clinic spaces may be limited each season.
Level 1: Introduction to Officiating Clinic
The Level 1 clinic is designed to introduce new officials to the fundamentals of ringette officiating.
The certification process typically includes:
Mandatory online learning through Ringette Canada
In-class training session
On-ice practical session
Online knowledge exam completed following the clinic
Topics covered include:
Pre-game duties and responsibilities
Positioning and on-ice mechanics
Rules and violations
Body contact principles
Signals and communication
Skating skills assessment
Successful completion of all clinic components and the exam is required for certification.
Required Equipment
Once certified, officials are responsible for obtaining the required officiating equipment, including:
Skates
Black CSA-approved helmet
Whistle
Black pants
Officials jersey
Registration Requirements
All officials must register annually through Ringette Ontario/RAMP in order to officiate sanctioned games.
Officials who are 18 years of age or older must upload a valid Police Record Check to their RAMP profile in accordance with Ringette Ontario requirements.
