Gloucester-Cumberland Ringette Association Scholarship
Purpose of the GCRA Scholarship
The Gloucester Cumberland Ringette Association (GCRA) believes that participation in sport — particularly ringette — combined with meaningful volunteerism and community involvement, plays a vital role in the social, personal, and leadership development of youth.
In recognition of this commitment, the GCRA awards up to five (5) annual scholarships of $500 each to graduating ringette players entering their first year of full-time post-secondary studies.
Recipients will have demonstrated:
- A sustained commitment to ringette through active participation as a player
- Meaningful contributions to the GCRA, their school, and/or their community through volunteer service
- The ability to balance athletics, academics, and community involvement
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be entering a recognized post-secondary institution on a full-time basis for the first time in the fall of the academic year for which the scholarship applies
- Be in their final year of secondary school, or have just completed their final year at the time of application
- Have been registered with the GCRA for at least four (4) of the past five (5) years
- Be willing to participate in an interview with the GCRA Scholarship Selection Committee, if requested
Application Requirements

Completed applications must be submitted to the Scholarship Selection Committee by April 1 and include:
- 500-Word Essay
The essay should describe:
- How participation in ringette has contributed to your personal growth
- Your volunteer involvement within ringette, school, and/or the community
- How you have balanced sport, academics, and volunteer commitments
- Two (2) References
- One GCRA reference (e.g., coach, board member, volunteer colleague)
- One community reference (e.g., teacher, employer, supervisor)
- Proof of Admission
Confirmation of acceptance into a recognized post-secondary institution (to be provided after the scholarship has been awarded, prior to release of funds).
All documentation submitted becomes the property of the GCRA and will be treated as strictly confidential.
Selection Process
The GCRA Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of members of the GCRA Executive and designated volunteers, will review all completed applications received by the deadline.
In evaluating applications, the Committee will consider:
- Demonstrated commitment to ringette
- Volunteer contributions within GCRA, school, and/or the community
- Evidence of leadership, personal development, and character
- Demonstrated ability to balance athletics, academics, and volunteer responsibilities
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to participate in an interview.
The Selection Committee reserves the right not to award a scholarship in any given year. All decisions of the Committee are final.
Announcement and Disbursement
Scholarship recipients will be announced at the GCRA Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Funds will be released upon confirmation of enrollment in a recognized post-secondary institution for the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded.
