Ice Allocation & Arena and Ice Use Rules

If you arrive at the arena for your time slot and encounter a problem such as:

  • another ringette team is there as well
  • a hockey team is trying to use the ice
  • the arena staff says that GCRA does not have the ice

Please immediately contact*:

  1. GCRA ice scheduler by email: gcravp@gmail.com
  2. any other member of the GCRA Executive (list available here)

*Failure to notify GCRA immediately of any ice conflict may result in your team being charged for the ice.

Arena & Ice Use Rules

To help ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all participants, coaches, volunteers, families, spectators, and facility users, all GCRA members and guests are expected to follow these rules when using arena facilities and ice rented by the Association.

  • Participants may only access the ice during the scheduled rental time and must wait until ice resurfacing is complete, the ice resurfacing machine has left the surface, and all gates are fully closed before entering the ice.
  • All participants must leave the ice promptly at the end of their scheduled session to allow for ice maintenance and the next user group. A one-hour rental generally provides a maximum of 50 minutes of ice time, with the remaining time allocated for ice maintenance.
  • Participants, coaches, volunteers, parents, spectators, and guests must follow all directions provided by arena staff.
  • Only registered participants and authorized coaches, trainers, officials, and volunteers may access the ice surface or player benches during GCRA activities.
  • Players under 18 must be appropriately supervised in accordance with GCRA’s applicable dressing room and supervision policies.
  • Dressing rooms must be vacated within 25 minutes following the end of the scheduled ice rental.
  • Participants should not enter dressing rooms earlier than permitted by the facility and must leave the facility promptly following their scheduled activity.
  • Sticks and rings must only be used on the ice surface and in designated areas where permitted.
  • Dry-land training, including running, skipping, aerobics, is not permitted in dressing rooms, hallways, concourses, bleachers, or other areas of the facility unless prior approval has been obtained from the City.
  • Walking on the ice surface with regular footwear to access player benches, penalty boxes, or the timekeeper’s area is not permitted.
  • Trainers or other authorized individuals who enter the ice surface to respond to an injury or emergency must wear a CSA-approved helmet. Coaches are responsible for ensuring a CSA-approved helmet is readily available for this purpose.
  • Participants must use appropriate equipment for their activity and follow all applicable GCRA, Ringette Ontario, and facility safety requirements.
  • Food and beverages must remain in designated areas. Glass containers are prohibited in dressing rooms, player benches, and ice areas.
  • Participants and spectators must remain in areas of the facility designated for their use and must not enter restricted, staff-only, or mechanical areas.
  • Respectful behaviour is required at all times. Inappropriate behaviour, harassment, abusive conduct, and foul or offensive language are prohibited.
  • Participants, coaches, volunteers, parents, spectators, and guests are expected to treat arena staff, officials, opposing teams, other facility users, and members of the public with respect.
  • Arena facilities, dressing rooms, equipment, and property must be treated with care. Dressing rooms and other areas used by GCRA members must be left clean and free of garbage.
  • Injuries, unsafe conditions, facility damage, or other significant incidents must be reported promptly to arena staff and the appropriate GCRA representative.

Thank you for helping GCRA maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment for everyone.
